My goals were to hit at least 50 miles, with a stretch goal of 55 miles, and a super-stretch goal of 60 miles. I also wanted to maintain a sub-10 minute pace.
Well, I managed to do 51.17 miles in February, at a 9:14 min pace. I was happy with the pace but not with the mileage total.
In retrospect, I had a strong start of the month and achieved the vast majority of the miles by mid-month, but managed to over-train again and re-injure the splenic flexure that I had injured last month, which knocked me down for 10 days, from the 16th of the month to the 26th.
So what did I learn? Well, obviously I overdid it at the beginning of the month, so I need to slow down and pace myself. I think I will incorporate some cross-training and focus less on pace/distance, and more time in developing 'core-strength'. It'll be a bit of a step back from my type-A drive to achieve, but will be better for long-term stamina and strength.
And the counter resets anew.
