Wow, it's been a busy month.
First and foremost Startup(x): Tej and I officially opened the doors of StartupCity Des Moines on October 12th, six weeks ago exactly. We have seven Startups in residence already (our 12 month goal is 10-15), and the group is the perfect inagurual class so far. The culture is better than anything he and I hoped for this early, and the community support has been outstanding. You can see us at our website, like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, or even look at our crazy pics on Flickr. If you google us, you'll get quite a few stories (most positive) about our progress.
Our second Startup(x) activity is the Iowa Startup Alliance, announced on November 4th, which my wife describes as a 'zoo pass' of reciprocal privileges between all of the tech incubators and co-working spaces within the State of Iowa. We are happy as hell that this came about, and have already had a number of tourists from other incubators and co-working spaces come by and riff with our residents. Good stuff.
The third Startup(x) activity is StartupIowa. This is a statewide effort to capture the private/public momentum of the entrepreneurial initiatives within the State as a region within the Startup America Partnership. This is rather complicated to coordinate, but we have some seriously cool shit going on in Iowa and are doing a great job of breaking down legacy barriers to cross-geography collaboration within the State. We deserve a little recognition and visibility for how badass we are. We're formally and nationally announcing this in early December.
Not to get all Confucian up in here, but this is representative of his anecdote about a healthy country needing a healthy village, and a healthy village needing a healthy family. StartupCity is happily and healthily nested like a Matryoshka doll within the Iowa Startup Alliance, which in turn is part of StartupIowa. Its all good.
