I always admire well-executed statesmanship, as seldom as it occurs.
I don't know the policy or background on Former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, but I do know that she was rather deft when she stated prior to her re-arrival in Pakistan that she had no fear of suicide bombers as 'the Qur'an specifically admonishes against killing women' (to paraphrase). I don't know the exact passage of the Qur'an that she is referring to, but the idea of using religious admonitions to dissuade suicide bombers (unsuccessfully, sadly) was an interesting tactic.
Uhm, what? Now, I am just ripping into this without fore thought (as I have far too many things in life, count my divorces) but, it seems to me the same 'reasoning' is why there are suicide bombers in the first place. I hope this is stating the obvious and there for absurd just to prove the absurdity point. If it is not, then I have missed the boat, fallen off the train and should go back to the cartoon network. .02 from the gallery.

I remember at the time you wrote this, Christian, I wanted to post here that there was absolutely no protection for women from extremists, they don't go by these Koranic admonitions obviously. Otherwise we wouldn't get cases like the female journalist killed in prison in Iran and so on.
But I didn't wish to write back then because it seemed ghoulish.
As it does now...
